Where in the World...

Puglia, Italy

Presently we live in the Puglia region of Italy. That is pronounced Pool-ya and it is located on the area of land that juts out into the sea, or the heel of the boot. The two seas that surround this region are the Adriactic and the Ionian. The Adriatic Sea is an arm of the Mediterranean that lies between Italy on the west and north and the Balkan Peninsula on the east. The only entrance to the sea is by the Strait of Otranto, which lies in the south between Italy and Albania and connects the Adriatic with the Ionian. The Ionian Sea, south of the Adriactic, is bounded by southern Italy, including Calabria, Sicily and the Salento peninsula to the west, and by southwestern Albania. The Ionian Sea is one of the most seismic areas in the world.
